E.E Cummings E. E Cummings was born on October 19th, 1894 in the town of Cambridge, Massachusetts. His real name was Edward Estlin. He was an American poet, painter, writer, playwright and author. His mom would read him poetry all the time when he was a just a baby and throughout his whole childhood. In september 1911 Cummings enrolled at Harvard University where he graduated in 1915 with a Bachelor of Arts degree . While at Harvard he got a lot of his work published in their magazines and in other places. In 1918 he was drafted into the army, where he served in the 12th division at Camp Devins, Massachusetts until November of 1918. Cummings went to Paris in 1921 and stayed there for two years before returning to New York. Cummings also worked as an essayist and portrait artist for Vanity Fair magazine during 1924 to 1927. In the 1920's and1930s he returned to Paris many times and to many other places in Europe, he also met Pablo Picasso while there. In the1920’s and 30’s Cummings also traveled Northern Africa and Mexico. Cumming's had 2 marriages which both ended in divorce, one was to Elaine Orr who he had a child with named Nancy and was married to for less then 9 months. He married another woman named Anne Minnerly Barton who he was married to for 3 years. E.E Cummings died on September 3, 1962 of a stroke.
